S.S. Hochelaga Album

The S.S. Hochelaga served as the water connection between Charlottetown and Pictou between 1924 and 1940 and is remembered as a luxurious vessel – as indeed it was having started life as the private yacht of the Archduke of Austria.  But it also led other lives including a submarine patrol vessel, vice-regal yacht and a Zionist refugee ship.  The whole story is told in an article titled One Steamship’s Story which appears in the Spring / Summer 2014 issue of the The Island Magazine.  As a teaser here is a gallery of the Hochelaga photos – some of which do not appear in the article.
